tasty: something “tasty” tastes nice and good.

sugary: with a lot of sugar.

candy: "US" sweets.

to get into: if you “get into” something, you start to like it. Americans say, “I’ve gotten into”; the British equivalent is “I’ve got into”

a staple: food that is basic and important for our diet: rice, pasta, bread, etc.

ethnic food: food from a particular ethnic group (but not including Western culture): Indian food, Thai food, Indonesian food, etc.

to tend: if you “tend” to do something, you usually do that thing

a legume: the fruit or seed of a plant: peas, beans, lentils, chick peas, etc.

Remember!
When people "even native English speakers" talk informally, naturally and spontaneously, they often repeat themselves, correct themselves, use non-standard English and even make mistakes.
